Project Description

During the early stage of U.S. military operations in Iraq, Perini Management Services, Inc. was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for a Contingency Contract for design-build construction within the USACE Middle East Area of Responsibility. Under the Task Force Restore Electricity Program, Perini performed five major electrical projects in southern Iraq. The work was performed on a fast-track one-year schedule and included rehabilitation of 360 km of high voltage transmission line, electrical substations, and two 63 MW turbine generators, and construction of two 40MW power plants. The projects were in geographically dispersed locations from Basrah to Baghdad. The scope also involved construction of a man camp for Perini and USACE personnel in Basrah and another man camp in a remote desert area.
